On a recent trip, I was speaking with a couple over breakfast, and was asked, “What inspires you?” My pat answer, I suppose, is life. Life inspires me. But the more I thought about it, the more my answer changes.
I recently took the trip of a lifetime, for my 25th wedding anniversary. Seven days in Italy. My wife and I hit most of the highlights. Rome, The Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, Pisa, Juliet’s balcony in Verona, The Coliseum, The David in Florence, The wine region of Tuscany, the channels of Venice and even dinner with a Contessa.
If anyone walked away from this trip uninspired, they need to have their pulse checked. My wife and I drank wine, ate gelato, had fresh pasta, and, of course, pizza. Again, it was the trip of a lifetime. Not just because of the places we visited, or the love I shared with my wife, but because of the people.
People we met on our week-long journey. People from our traveling tour, people we met in bookstores in Rome, or on the streets of Verona. People, passing by as they were living their daily lives.
So what inspires me? People. The life’s journey. The Italian countryside. Love! My tank is full, and my engine finely tuned. I’m happy to be home, and looking forward to my next adventure!
Ciao, Bella!
