Oliver Morales has spent thirty years photographing other people’s wars. Nothing prepares him for the one that finds him at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when a masked rioter singles him out of the crowd.

The attack is not random. It reaches back to his senior year on Long Island in 1986, to a new girl named Navil Laurent, a best friend named Fiona, and a classmate named Jackie Woodley, and to something that happened between them that nobody has spoken about since.

Recovering alone while his wife is stranded overseas, Ollie has to work out how a night thirty-five years gone ended with someone in a mask singling him out of a crowd.
